If you ring Quinn and ask them their staff are normally very coy about it and generally try and avoid the question or say something along the lines of it will go up a little bit. If you really press them they sometimes will tell you but it is unusual.

A good way is to get the quote you have from their website and just run it through with you having a full licence for a day, the annual price they quote is roughly the difference they will ask for.

Google tells me that some people have never had a single problem with quinn, yet others have had some, but it seems the ones that have had problems are ones that have tried to change policy /dispute etc.? If I ring and confirm how much it will cost to upgrade when I pass my test, surely they cannot simply lie, and this quote should be correct for when I pass? I am a highly safe and defensive driver so the chances are I will not have to claim / change the insurance so once it's purchased that should be that and I shouldn't have any problems.

Adrian Flux online quote system gave me a quote £600 more than quinn's quote, it seems quinn really is the only affordable one... I've tried comparison websites and this further proves this...

Again I will ring them and other companies in the morning... and get some more facts and figures straight.

    Thanks.

    Hi

My understanding is that it would be cheaper to arrange a month by month policy with Collingwood learner insurance, then once you have passed your test to obtain an annual policy.

Quinn don't have the best reputation, so should be avoided anyway. You may be better to go to a local broker (not Swintons) to find a suitable policy. I have heard that Adrian Flux have discounted schemes for young drivers.

Thanks. So the insurane will not be cheaper than if I were to buy full license insurance now than if I buy provisional license insurance then upgrade once I pass?
Quinn appears to be the only insurance company that has an acceptable price so I many be forced to go with them when I pass anyway, unless any others are compareable in price?

Will ring Quinn in the morning to find out what it would cost to upgrade from the provisional quote they have offered when I pass my test.

    Hi

DO NOT GO WITH QUINN!!!!!!!! They appear cheap but you will end up paying more. If you make any changes, particularly once you have a full driving licence, the premium will go up by a massive amount. If you ask Quinn they can give you a premium indication as if you held a full licence. You can then obtain similar quotes from other Insurers to compare with.

    See previous thread http://www.moneysupermarket.com/community/forums/t/provisional-licence-to-full-licence-insurance-37632.aspx

If you do a google for Collingwood Insurance, you will find a month by month policy for provisional/learner drivers.

Then once you have passed your test, you should then shop around for the best deal.

How much will insurance go up when I pass? (currently provisional)

    Hi there.

I have recently purchased a 1.7 ford puma and am looking to insure soon.

I am currently on provisional license. I am aged 17. I will have my full license on 1st January 2010. So at the moment I am looking to purchase insurance for the car based on my provisional license (had since aug09). My Quote from Quinn-direct, for this is £1375 and I plan to go through with this. As I plan to pass my test and thus obtain a full UK license 1st Jan 10 (so in just over a month) what will happen to the cost of my insurance?

I suppose that quinn direct will just charge me the extra amount (upgrade) in accordance to the extra risk of me having a full uk license? If so, ABOUT how much might this be? I mean, an EXTRA £500, or an extra £2000 or somewhere inbetween?

    NOTE: If of any interest...

If I were to pass and obtain full uk license tomorrow and insure the car under quinn with a full uk license then it would cost £3300. Any help / advice and ideas are much appreciated.

    Thank you, George.
