Using this to try to speed up my PC bootup time - I was wondering what SERVICES were safe to stop ?
And is it possible to stop something that is important enough to prevent the PC from booting ?
I have tried stopping INCD (nero) - this brings up a "complaint" error message at boot up - which I simply "OK" to clear
But what about "Portable Device Enumerator" and services that appear "Stopped" under normal running of the desktop PC ?

    Re: MS Config

The "Portable Device Enumerator" service is used by apps such as Media Player and the Image Import Wizard to syncronize with external devices.

If you use the Import Wizard to load pics from a digital camera or transfer files from MP3 players, this is the service that is used.

Note: - iTunes does not use this service, so iPod users would be unaffected by disabling it.

    Hope this helps...

    Re: MS Config

I did something very similar with my PC recently, discovered that Vista was nice enough to load almost all services just in case i might need them.

What I did was run services.msc and had google side by side. took me a while but went through each one and stopped (and diabsled form startup) all the ones that were safe to do so after I read about them on google.
