I recognise what you say about Nationwide standards deteriorating over time. Eventually I decamped to a "real" bank (NatWest) and specifically the NatWest/RBS telephone and online service is streets ahead.

Regarding Microsoft Money, unfortunately I have to agree with Nationwide. What I don't understand is why Microsoft have stopped Money. A great pity.

Have to say i'm very impressed with RBS'a online service. The little handheld calculator you get to authorise certain online functions makes you feel very secure.

I aagree with Binman62 - I have relied upon the background banking facility for 4 years now. If I cannot persuade the NBS to reinstate this facility I will reinstate paper statements instead.

I can't believe they have done this without any warning. For the last week I thought it was just a technical issue their end. Some people over on the MSE forums have figured a way of importing the CSV files but compared to the old way it's too much hassle for me so I think I too will be switching.

Nationwide Dumps Microsoft Money and Background Banking....

Nationwide in a move that has angered me more than I could believe, have removed without warning, the ability to download statement data directly into microsoft money. They say that as Microsoft have not updatred the programme since 2005 they will no longer support it.

I could accpet this, but I do not understand why they canot allow the background banking operation to continue without support. Money was a simple but highly effective tool for managing financial data on a daily basis using up to the minute data direct from your account. Nationwide were the only bank in the UK to offer the background service which was one big reason for me to stay with them.

Not only have they now removed this functionality but they will not provide a data download that is compatible with the programme unlike just abpout any other bank or credit card compnay in the UK. Indeed in a quite bizarre turn they have advised customers to " use a conversion tool readily available from the internet" So, from having the Rolls Royce of service they are now providing a Ryan Air service without the charm.

This is yet another nail in the coffin of a once noble building society. Fees for credits cards, no interest on current account and a almost monthly withdrawls of services under the guise opf competitiveness have stripped this institution of all reasons to stay with them.

Via the online secure message facilty I have left them in no doubt what I think but at the end of the day only moving away(and taking almost £300K with me) is the only message they will understand, but, like all the major financial institutions in this country, will almost certainly not listen too.

    Bring on Tesco and Virgin.....please
