    Phone Problems

We have a cordless DECT BT phone (about 4 years old) that refuses to allow certain callers to leave a message

"Normally" - if unanswered - a caller receives a message "... Sorry, nobody is in... please leave a message after the tone"

But some callers (Mainly, but not exclusively mobiles and not all mobiles) - receive a different message "Sorry, nobody is in" - Could this answer be generated from BT rather than "locally/from the phone" because the "voice" is slightly different too ....

This is extremely annoying and I was hoping that I could find an answer in this forum ?

I have a BT phone, that has 3 message choices. Leave a message after the tone or noboby is available to take your call and you cannot leave a message or you can record your own message. I am on Virgin media and do not have any message service via them. Both the voices in the BT phone handset are female and sound similar.

If you are supplied by BT, I do believe that if there is no answer they have various messages. I have heard similar to what you have mentioned. So I think it must be BT.

    Re: Phone Problems

I would say that BT have a security issue with this....

Check https://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerOrders/control/orderproduct?productId=CON-25216 which allows "ANYONE" who knows a Post Code and Phone number to change their billing costs - this apparently may be my problem - the fact that (by default) 1571 was set

Have you actually tried to follow the link?

When I tried it I was taken to my account login, so user name and password is also required.

    Re: Phone Problems

Thats very alarming - looking at the "choices" available someone could sign you up for ~ £20 of extra charges per month without your knowledge - I bet it would take an almighty lot of arguing to get them removed after the event!!!

edit - Jalexa - but what would happen if you didn't have an online account set up ??

To answer your question, when you first try to follow the link you are not in a logged-in state and the system does not know whether or not the user has an online account. The choice presented is to log in or to create an online account.

Well that's what happened when I tried.

So create account security is what's important. From memory, the customer account number from the bill is required to register an online account.

    later edit -

I can see (now) my original point was not clear as technically I was not taken to my online account, only to the sign-on. Apologies
