    Is this right???

    Hello everyone.

    I hope someone can help.

My daughter has had some problems with her gas /meter/heating.

I'm not sure which is playing up or if any of them are.

She have a pre payment meter and she hasn't used the gas heating all through the summer, not even for bathing , she's doing that at my house. She has been washing up with a kettle or two of water.

Today she decided to use the gas heating and give my grandson a bath at his own home for a change, so she charged her gas card up with £10 and put it in the meter at 5pm today. She put the heating on and then ran GS bath.

She has just checked the meter 8.30pm, just 3 and a half hours later, and it has used £1,17p is that normal?

She doesn't have a bill on the meter.

    I hope this makes sense.

Hard to say. Would depend on a number of issues, the cost per unit and how much heat and hot water was used.

Some background info here about pre-payment meters...

Find out from the supplier what unit rate is set and any other charges if you can't get the meter to display the info.

    Thanks Jalexa.

That will come in handy. I'll get my daughter to check it.

Sounds excessive to me. I would to add that its much cheaper to heat water though your boiler rather than a kettle. Had she let the meter completely drain and go into emergency credit? Although the gas will be off unless you told the meter otherwise the daily harge would still be taken away could she paying for that?
