Invoices Received for Non Existing Meter!!

We own a property in the local area and we rent it out to tenants. We have been receiving invoices for the electricity from NPower which we have been paying. Just this week we received a pile of invoices from NPower which are for a completely different meter. Our electrician has been out to the property and it turns out that the invoices we have been paying are for a meter that doesn't even exist in the property!! The invoices that we have recently received are in fact for the only meter that is in the property. However, these invoices go back to 2006. How do we go about resolving this problem with NPower as we have been informed that they can only go back 12 months? I would appreciate it if someone could get back to me on this.

    Thanks.

Re: Invoices Received for Non Existing Meter!!

Npower can only back bill you 12 months. However, they are able to track exactly how much you paid by comparing your bank details to the meter no etc, they have transaction nos for every payment you have made.

Exactly the same thing happened a while ago with my gas account. Basically your meter has been "transposed" (mention this word to them). As long as you can prove your meter no, identity etc, then they should be able to get it sorted over the phone.

It's a case of applying the correct meter no to your account and an up to date read. As i said it's incredibly easy for them to sort. So, contact them and get this done. If they are still giving you hassle, simply threaten them with Consumer Focus. If they still fail to resolve, get in touch with Consumer Focus and they'll help sort it for you.

    Pharma Fred:

The problem is that while there will be a solution I would not be confident that your NPower billing contact will easily find it.

I would suggest finding out who is the Distribution Network Operator for your area. Search for "MPAN" on Wikipedia and determine from the map which DNO is responsible for your area. Using the contact telephone number try to verify that the MPAN given on the "false" NPower invoices is the right MPAN for your address.

Post again when you have an answer.
