rate for "Online energy saver 4"

I am a Scottish Power customer who is still on the old "online energy saver 4" tarriff - which appears to have disolved into a general "online" tarriff now...

What rate am I being charged per kwh for electricity ? - when I check online - There is no mention of online energy saver 4 !!

Plus - is this still SP's cheapest rate for me - I am in Somerset.....

    Hi Twee,

The rate you're being charged should be shown on one of your previous bills, but a quick look at our comparison tool (based on a Shepton Mallet postcode and medium usage) shows the Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 4 electricity tariff at:

    Standing charge: N/A
    Unit Rates 1 (up to 900kwh): 16.756p
    Unit Rates 2: 9.091p
    Night Rate: N/A

Medium usage estimates your annual electricity consumption at 3,300 Kwh (about £530)

Run a comparison of tariffs on your postcode and take a look - use the tool above - the SP Online Saver 4 tariff is in the drop down menu. Based on medium usage, it still looks like the best SP online tariff...

Re: rate for "Online energy saver 4"

    Hi Graeme,

Close to "SHEPTON MALLET" - and I am on dual fuel rate - no standing charge - I pay £43 per month (£516 per year) for both - and my on-line bill does not mention what my charge rate is ......

but if you reckon 16.7546 p per unit - who am I to argue

Many thanks - this was needed to set up my monitor (free from British Gas)

Ah, lovely part of the country. How do you cope when the Pilton festival is on, Twee?

Glad to be able to help. Take a look at this, too:

    http://www.scottishpower.co.uk/pricing_pdfs/ole/olesaver4.pdf

It's a PDF of the Scottish Power Online Energy Saver 4 tariffs with prices effective 1 Sep 2008. Might be useful - though it's not the easiest to decipher!

Thanks Graeme - how did I miss that

And while Glastonbury is on - I try to be as far away as possible - preferably out of the country

Re: rate for "Online energy saver 4"

    Graeme,

OK on investigating further - I am currently on online energy saver 4 paying 4.463p per unit for gas and 16.091p per kwh for electricity

If I transfer to Online energy Saver 7 - I will be paying 3.416p per unit for gas and 16.091p per kwh for electricity

All VAT inclusive - are there any "T & C" that I need to watch out for - such as contract periods ?

So Scottish Power LIED to me - when I asked them to ensure that I was on the cheapest tarriff ?

Why are their tarriffs so god darned complex ?
It is almost as if they are designed to confuse the customers !!!

My comment on your last point - yes - but unfortunately hardly policed by our "big government" appointed quangos.

Regarding your other questions I wonder if you are missing something in your use of the comparison websites. I checked Moneysupermarket and another one and both listed Online Saver 4 ( and the existing tariff rates). Both made it clear that the Online Saver 7 was "locked-in" until December 2010 and that the tariff offers a guranteed 3% discount to standard rates (but currently delivers a much bigger discount to current standard rates).

Actually there is a subtle issue here. It is neither "fixed" nor "capped" except capped to 3% below standard rates. What happens to your rate if the standard rate changes? Probably nothing. In terms of the T&C the only guarantee is 3% below the standard tariff for which benefit you are locked-in until December 2010.

"LIED" is a very strong term to use. Maybe your question was ambiguous? Certainly you had to ask here for answers readily available on comparison websites and your bill. Learn to use the comparison website effectively and you will not be subject to questionable accuracy and comprehension of customer service staff.

FWIW, my experience of Scottish Power is quite good and the tariffs display less "gotchas" than other competitive suppliers.
