Sorry it has come to this after 34 years but not surprised.

There is plenty of web guidance about "reclaiming unfair bank charges". The choice is yours to put it down to experience or to put in a claim. You gave them a chance, now it's your choice whether you show them any mercy.

Though I have no personal knowledge of, and have seen some unfavourable reports, Alliance and Leicester are running their £100 for switching offer.

Though most banks levy arguably unfair charges, NatWest/RBS have just reduced their charges to a less unfair level. In my experience you will find their customer service much better than Lloyds and their online and telephone banking streets ahead. After 34 years it's worth developing some confidence in switching. Up to you how you react to being kicked.

Switching away does not affect your entitlement to reclaim.

No joy with Lloyds - they left me a message on my voicemail - totally gutted.

Thank you for your comments in your quick reponse. I am going to the local branch today and will let you know, this afternoon, how I got on.

    LMM59:

A recent similar post about Lloyds reported a good outcome so hope for the best - and prepare for the worst.

At the appropriate time there is plenty of action to take in respect of these "unfair" charges. For the moment I would go into the branch and go with the flow, except for the failure of Lloyds to fulfill their promise to get back to you.

Lloyds have a very detailed customer contact system. Sit down and focus on the previous contacts and demand an explanation why they have failed to keep their promise to contact you. If you keep focussed on that issue I expect Lloyds will realise it is in their interest to waive the charges - on this occasion.

If no joy, post back for more help.

    Help - Excessive Bank Charges

I have been with Lloyds for 34 years and have never been outside my agreed overdraft. My agreed overdraft is only just over £200.

I have just come back from holiday to two letters from Lloyds and am horrified to see that I have gone £25.54 over my agreed overdraft. lloyds inform me that I have accrued a £102 charge for September because of the £25.54 and £45 for Oct currently rising daily at £15 a day.

So in total I have accrued already bank charges of £147 for inadvertently spending the £25.54 over my agreed limit.

I have cried and am having trouble sleeping about this. I have rung Lloyds twice and visited the branch in person,. they have promised to ring me back and havent. I plan to go again today in person. Please help. : (
