    Re: Redundancy

This applies only if the job being offerred is of the same salary or higher. You cannot abitrarily reduce someones salary by simply offering them another job.

I would discuss the issue with the company (if there is no union) and underline your desire to find a position that works for you and the company. But explain that you understand that if this is not possible, then redundancy is a possibility. In my experience, if you explain clearly to your employers your personal situation, if it comes to it, they will make you compulsory redundant

    Re: Redundancy

    Hi,

First of all, you should look up your union rep as the prev poster said.

However, how many people are being made redundant? If it's under 20 in a financial year, then they only have to provide 30 days notice. Over 20 and it's 90 days.

Secondly, if you were offered a second job and opted not to take it, then i'm afraid it's voluntary redundancy, as they have offered to a different position in the company and you have voluntarily refused to accept. In this case, you would have a much longer wait to claim unemployment benefit from the state.

    Re: Redundancy

Sorry to hear of your predicament

Do you have a union rep that you can talk to ?

The difference between voluntary and compulsory redundancy also affects your ability to claim income support from DWP - So - if you want my opinion - you want to Sit Tight / hang on until "pushed" - ie Not go until they offer Compulsory

A company is going to try to save money by offering Voluntary first - perhaps 10% will take this

Then - they will rethink and try Compulsory for the rest

They can't just boot you out with no compensation

    Redundancy

HI it would be great if someone could help, me and my wife both work in the same department at the same company but on different shifts because we have 2 year old son. The company are changing the shifts from two to just a day shift out of are department of five workers they are reducing it to two and we have to reply for are jobs, they are offering redundancy or a different job but with a big pay cut we both can’t work days. My question is would it be compulsory redundancy or voluntary because they are offering a different job, I have mortgage and loan protection but will not pay out if it was voluntary redundancy
