    FairFX Pre-paid cards

This service works relatively well, once you get used to the user-UNfriendly website. However, there are several minor to major failings that you would not expect from a company that handles YOUR money. Here are a few of the important ones:

    * At time of writing this, they have let their SSL security certificate expire for their website. This means that fraudsters could masquerade as FairFX and collect their customers' login details.

    * When you log into www.fairfxcard.com to administer your account, including view transaction details and purchase more funds, your user session does not time out after a set period of inactivity. Even the user who thinks he has logged out has not necessarily done so, because FairFX use two domains (fairfx.com and fairfxcard.com) and shunt the user back and forth between the two without the user necessarily noticing. So you can be logged out of one domain, but not the other. I have returned to my PC literally hours after having logged in to FairFX to find I'm still logged in. This is a very serious security failing, especially when you consider that the cards are used primarily by tourists who may be logging into their account from an internet café abroad.

    * You have to study the online statement of transactions very closely to make any sense of it. This is because it's presented as a very basic credit / debit / balance statement, but it is not. The balance brought forward, followed by a credit or debit from a transaction, never seems to result in the correct new balance, which can be very disconcerting when a quick calculation reveals that the new balance is out by a very significant amount. Only the balance plus all transactions over a period of days results in a correct available balance. So if it's not a basic debit / credit statement, why is it presented as one? Making sense of the online statement is further complicated by their use of the US date format, which is odd for a UK-based company.

    * The above issues have been pointed out to FairFX, but they don't seem to be in a hurry to fix them. They announced a platform update a while back, so I was hopeful the problems would be fixed. But no joy.

In short, the service works, but given the serious security issues with the website, I'd say use FairFX at your own risk.
