This already happened in France (To Orange) back in Feb:

    About time it happened here.

Will this mean a software upgrade to the I-Phone to allow the use of either orange or o2 sims?

    Re: O2 loses iPhone exclusive

The setting of iPhones to connect to an Orange phone would be from sales point when Orange start releasing, but they would likely restrict to Orange only sim cards.

As with all mobile phones if bought on a more restrictive network (like Orange) then the phones would need to be unlocked.

This may void any warranty you have.

If you have an exisiting O2 phone, this may be locked to O2 network only. I'd try borrowing a friend or colleagues sim card to test it.

If it is locked you could research being able to unlock this.

    hello,

just thinking out loud but as o2 have lost their exclusive deal with iphone i was wondering as my contract from o2 is contantly bragging about the iphone being exclusive to o2 does this mean that the contract is now void as that is untrue and because of this i should be legally allowed out of it? similar to when orange started charging for 0845 numbers a few years back and their contract become void? just thinking out loud

Probably not as at the point of you taking out the contract, and "signing on the line" the exclusive nature of the iphone was a valid statement. Additionally there's probably something in the fine print concerning their guarentee of "exclusive"

As Mynewt says, carterland - it'll be in the T&Cs that you signed. It's a lovely thought though!

thanks for the responses i'll have a look at the t&c's later, and although it was correct at the point of signing it is my understanding that if any changes are made after a contract is signed the contract isn't legally binding, thanks again for the responses
