I agree with CMK - You need to reject the car and get a FULL refund - this is your legal right - so don't take any alternative path..........

You have rights if you buy a vehicle from a dealer new or used, you’re covered by the Sale of Goods Act 1979. This means it must be: Of satisfactory quality, bearing in mind its age, what it cost and how it was described to you, it should also be free from serious defects, other than those you were made aware of.

Listen to the podcast in the Autotrader link, you still have a choice of whether to reject this car and insist on a full refund. If you choose to reject the car as unfit return it immediately, as this normally has to take place within two to three weeks of purchase in the case of a Used car.... follow up your valid reasons confirming the rejection in writing..preferably sent by recorded delivery.

It sounds like a engine management issue, if that's the case the car is a "Lemon" and could always cause you future problems...insist on your full refund if you feel that way. Note: - do not accept their offer to repair the car if you wish to reject, as that will affect your future right to reject it at a future date if the repairs do not cure the problem.

Used car gone bad - what are my options

    Hi,

Me and my girlfriend purchased a used Ford Ka from a dealer last Saturday (19th September) and last night it started shaking a lot while it was stationary and kept stalling so I took it to a garage today. They changed the spark plugs for me and said that if that didn't sort it out within 20 or so miles (which they thought it probably wouldn't) then they said they thought it was an issue with the engine, and that it could cost me in excess of £300-400! Now obviously having only bought it a week ago for 1900 quid I don't see why i should be left to foot the bill on this, so I was just wondering if the dealer who sold it me was under any legal obligation to pay for the repairs, get it fixed or give me a refund? Before me and my girlfriend bought the car, we made him put a new MOT on it, but this issue wasn't apparent or mentioned to us beforehand.....

Thanks for any advice you can give me on this

    :)
