Do you still think energy firms are ripping us off?

In January, 96% of you said you felt ripped off by the energy firms. Following the news that prices are unlikely to fall further and may rise next year, do you still think energy firms are ripping us off?

    • Yes – we should have already seen bigger cuts (76.7%)
    • Yes – providers should now start dropping their prices (19.3%)
    • No – we are lucky prices dropped this summer (1.9%)
    • No – energy firms are fair and have other costs, like subsidies (2%)

I was on a fixed rate, until Southern Electricity showed me they were slightly cheaper, so I went back to EDF and got a

lower rate, but I still think they should give OAP's a lower rate concession.

"but I still think they should give OAP's a lower rate concession."

    Why ?

Some OAP's are wealthy and don't need a concession

What I suggest is "INCOME BASED" charges - so if you can afford to pay - you pay the full amount - this would be for everyone (not just OAP's)

If you can't afford to pay - you need proof and get reduced cost (up to a certain limit)

I think all energy suppliers (have to) offer a social tariff. While to a certain extent there is tokenism at work, some may suit OAP's more that others. Checkout Eon Staywarm which offers "unlimited" energy for a fixed price. Not a recommedation, just one I know of. Also Eon Age Concern which has different benefits.

Re: Do you still think energy firms are ripping us off?

as far as I am aware all the "big six suppliers" offer social tariffs for customers on the correct benefits To qualify for a social tariff the customer must be over 60 years of age and in receipt of Passport Benefits such as, Attendance Allowance, Council Tax Benefit, Disability Living Allowance, Child Tax Credit (where income is less than £14,600 per annum), Disabled Persons Tax Allowance, Housing Benefit, Income Based Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Pension Credit, Working Tax Credit (where household income is less than £14,600), Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit or war Disablement Pension.

this would then give them the cheapest rate from that supplier regardless of payment methord.

I don't know. I would really value an expert article somewhere which gives me enough information to make an informed judgement on whether or not I get value for money on the "best" tariff or if they are separately or together a rip off.
