GardenTom:I made a claim for subsidence on my unattached garage about 14 years ago, will other insurance companies give me a quote for buildings cover as in the past they havent been very interested?

Most companies will just say no. Others will ask for a full surveyors report to consider whether they can cover.

Your best option is to look at other Insurances offered by the same Insurer. Quite often Insurers have many different Insurance products, available both direct and through brokers/intermediaries.

If say you were Insured with Norwich Union ( Aviva), they could be willing to Insure you through a different agency, as long as you provided full details to the new agency of the NU Policy number you had claimed against.

Also don't be put off complaining about the premium, if you believe it to be uncompetitive. Insurers are quite often willing to negotiate, even if you are a bit stuck with them.
