The garage should advise you regarding the coutesy car as to whether they Insure the car or expect you to arrange.

Another poster to this site had a nasty suprise. She crashed the courtesy car which the garage had insurance for, but they did not inform her there was an excess of about £500 and she was also responsible for recovery charges. The last time I heard she was looking at the paperwork to see if the garage informed her of this responsibility.

So the advice is check whether garage insure and if so what excess would you be responsible for. The garage would also be able to confirm whether the garages Insurance would cover both of you driving. If the garage want you to Insure, you can contact your Insurers and they will add temporary cover for a small extra charge. Your own policy would definantely cover both of you driving the courtesy car under the temporary cover. The garage will be responsible for Insuring your car until you pick it up.

Car Insurance- would I be covered?

    Hello experts,

Just something bugging me- simple answer I hope LOL. I'm the named driver on my wife's comprehensive Insurance policy. If we got a courtesy car whilst our car was in the garage for a service and I had to drive it is the insurance on that car covered by the garage? and would it be generally 3rd party only for both of us?

    Thanks in anticipation!

    Paul
