If by ASAP you mean as soon as no penalty just wait until nearer the time. The market is in flux just now, if? there is a direction of travel it's slightly down. If you have the usual meaning for ASAP then switch and take the hit.

It's unusual for switches to take less than 28 days but I wouldn't like to risk British Gas being in charge of your penalty.

Hi, I am at present with EDF "Price Protection 2009" tariff. I want to change to British Gas Web Saver 4 asap but EDF have told me I shall incur a penalty if I switch before 31 October 2009 when the fix ends. Is it possible to initiate the transfer now with a proviso that the transfer shall take place on 1 November 2009? If not, what is the earliest date I could start the transfer to be sure that it does not occur before that date? I have asked EDF but they have been rather unhelpful!
