Does it mention it in their TOS? Surely if you tell them that you use it a lot for legit purposes and if you cant have the max speed the connection is useless. You should be able to cancel the contract then as you are not getting the service you need.

Re: pipex homecall and p2p programs

thanks for your reply and the advice, but basically i have had it first hand off pipex homecall technical support that they are not supporting any file sharing programs this includes bittorrent newsgroups limewire etc and that all of the internet traffic is managed 24/7 hence the slow speeds im receiving..

as for port changing ive been using the internet well over 5 years now and do know quite a bit about port changing port forwarding etc i even subscribed to an ssl encryption on m,y news server which was meant to encrypt the data i reiceve and help avoid traffic shaping but to no avail.

with all my knowledege on internet and computers i cant beleive i got caught out by pipex lol im basically paying for an 8 mbit internet browser connection which to me is seriously not funny.

im really not bothered about the fact my download speeds are slow anymore i just feel bitter that i got caught out by pipex and that they dont advertise it when selling the product that there is no support for any p2p and your internet traffic is managed 24 hours a day 7 days a week and the fact they give you a 15 day settling in period when my internet took over 3 weeks to get connected lol by this time it was to late to take any action... had i have known any of this before hand i wouldn tof gone anywhere near them cause they cant supply what i need...

its a no win situation they can change my contract when ever they want and im legally binded to a 12month contract so unless soemthing drastic happens im stuck with them...

lessons have been learnt and mistakes have been made but they wont happen again in the future.

On the basis that most torrents are illegal you should perhaps count yourself lucky that they support them at all.

I know some torrents are legal, some software providers now have torrents as a download type available on their websites, also if you download the trail version of World Of Warcraft (3.6GB) it downloads from their servers and a torrent P2P network.

You could try changing the torrent port in whatever program you are using. I use Azureus at home and you can change the port it pools on. Also you could try turning encryption on which should help with the traffic shaping problem.

Is it just torrents that are slow or are downloads in general slow?

    pipex homecall and p2p programs

finally after 2 months of slow download speeds on my news server and torrents and after numerous trace rt's and speed checks,
pipex finally admitted they are not supporting file sharing in any way shape or form. gutted . i could live with the 6 - 11pm limit on downloads but now they have finally confirmed that all p2p applications are traffic managed.

if only they had told me this before i had signed up , whats the point in having an 8mb connection to browse the internet???

and when i tried to argue the fact it says in my contract only between the hours of 6 - 11 my traffic is managed they told me they can change my contract anytime they wanted..

on the plus side my girlfriend does have cable with a 10mb connection with out restrictions so im lucky there but to spend 12months downloading an mp3 @ 6kbps every day would drive me insane.

i think pipex do need to be named and shamed and adverstise the fact they dont support any p2p programs see how many new customers they get then ....

o yeah and on another note when i was performing speed checks on various websites they reported i was connected to tiscali and not pipex which then led me to the tiscali website where i found this http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=215
as if by coincidence all the people on tiscali are having the same problems as us pipex homecall users,
and more to the point is pipex homecall and tiscali linked together????

either way we are all in the same boat as 1 another and a soloution can not come quick enough i do begrudge paying for an 8 mbit connection on the grounds i dont need it just to browse the internet.

thats my 2 pence worth. lol
