Re: Interest charged on a missing payment

My next statement was dated 6th August so they actually had the cash for 5 working days. I'll check the small print. Thanks for your reply.

    Hi,

It really depends on how their systems work. Quite often even though the company has received the money it can take up to 3 days to appear on the account. I'd check your statement to confirm whether or not this is the case. If it is, then you might be able to ask them to wipe the charge as a goodwill gesture if this is the first time it has happened.

Interest charged on a missing payment

I recently paid in total my Argos store card balance in total (I had buy now pay later from last year). It was due 1st August so sent the payment via my online bank account on 31st July, bank comfirmed they would receive it the same day. I've just received my statement and no payment has been applied plus I've been charged >£170 interest. I've queried the missing payment and they are going to enter into correspondence with me after further investigation. I also asked about the interest charged and was told it can be discussed once they have written to me.

I've checked myself and realised that I've mistakenly missed off the 1st 3 digits on my account number on the payment reference so it hasn't been auto applied.

My question is, if I can prove that Argos had my money in time despite my mistake can they legally still charge me some or all of the interest in the outstanding balance.

    Thanks
