    ownership of vehicle

    I purchased a vehicle through a finance company in my name for my partner and when we parted I allowed him to use the vehicle on condition he made payments I put him as registered keeper but I was still the person they contacted re finance etc he has made 5 payments out of 48 I made all the others he has now been stopped from driving I took the vehicle from him as he insisted on driving even though he shouldnt for medical reasons I have contacted DVLA and finance company to pay off amount owing but he insists I have broke the law and stolen vehicle the vehicle is currently off the road awaiting ntice from finance company and to arrange insurance the vehicle is taxed can you advise please

    The vehicle is yours as validated by the finance company document and presumably the receipt details when you bought the car. Just make sure you get hold of the V5 registration document and send this to the DVLA to change registered keeper details. I don't understand the notice bit from the finance company, does this just confirm that the finance has been paid off.

    Your ex partner may have made some payments, but I doubt these would be a much as the hire charges, you could have asked him for. Is he going to contribute towards the wear and tear to the vehicle.

    If the finance is held in your name then you are the legal owner, the fact his name is on the log book only meant he was the registered keeper.

    You have not done anything wrong, in fact you have done the correct thing in taking the car back and removing the keys (hope you have them all?) as he should not be driving if he has been declared medically unfit. !

    Thank you Huckster thats what I thought but its easier when people confirm you are correct he did not complete payments at all and there is money outstanding which I will now be paying the vehicle should have been paid for in January and he has made excuses each month once again thank you for input.
