Minimum contract period is 12 months. However, if Virgin have not provided a service as detailed in your contract terms, you may be entitled to cancel prior to this, but this would be difficult as Virgin are not that easy to deal with. Contact Consumer Direct for advice but make sure you have details of your contract as well as records of the service you have experienced. There is a broadbandspeedchecker site. My Virgin broadband shows download av speed of 9360kbps and 460kbps upload, and it is 95% est reliable. It does slow down or grind to halt on occasions.

The speed of connection can vary quite alot, depending on where you live, proximaty to exchange, number of houses connected to exchange etc. Having said that I was getting faster speeds on dial up, than you are experiencing, so there must be a problem. Should Virgin have sold you a service? I have heard that Virgin have installed Broadband to properties in some areas, where the connections are not ideal and need to be upgraded.
