    EON reconnection of services

    Hi There

I am hoping someone can help with my unfortunate and complocated matter ?

I am due to rent a business unit from a land lord - he has only just recently aquired the unit in question. I set up an account wuth southern electric but the electric pipe (which runs into the supply fuses has been physically cut!). I contacted southern electric who said it was eon's responsibilty to fix. Eon came out - they advised that the pipe was cut by them for safety reasons and although they would agree to repair it they would not agree incurr the cost of repair. Southern electric also said the same. Now my landlord has agreed to incurr the charges but I am wondering first of all - why should he when it was eon who cut the pipe in the first place!!! Also, EON have asked me to send a detailed application frorm with site plans etc in order for them to generate a quote for the cost of repair (which they caused!!!) Now I am wondeiring how long they are actually going to take to repair such a problem and roughly how much they would charge ??? Alosk, why should my landlord incurr the cost? We are due to open very soon and we can't seem to get any quick answers.

The total length of the pipe stretching from my unit to the road is 92m as the pipe has been cut just before the supply fuses box in my unit and also disconected at the road which is adjacent to my site - a total a 92 m.

Anyone heard or been through simialr ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated !!!

    Re: EON reconnection of services

    Hi ignomony

Firstly, apologies if my comments are a bit sketchy but my knowledge of these matters is limited.

It sounds like E.ON are the electricity distributor for your area and, as such, responsible for this type of disconnection/re-connection.

I have done some digging and these disconnections tend to be where a property is undergoing renovation or in a state of disrepair. We may have been contacted by the owners, past or present, and advised this work was going ahead. Alternatively, a concerned neighbour or member of the public may have contacted us if they thought there was a danger present.

In these circumstances an engineer would have carried out a survey and if they thought a safety issue was involved would have recommended disconnection.

Not knowing the full circumstances of your property I can only speculate but if the above was the case E.ON would have a duty of care to make the supply safe.

This type of job would be considered a Service Alteration and re-connection is chargeable.

As I say, I am only speculating and would advise you to contact our Business Energy Connections team for specific advice about your circumstances.

Again, sorry for the vagueness but I hope this helps a little.

    Hi Malc

Thank very much for your reply ! I have found out since, that the previous owners may have contacted eon to disconnect the services for safety reasons - as you mention above. I currently have an application in with eon for reconnection of services and they have e-mailed me today confirming a quote for the work will be with me in approx 5 days. I now understand the situation a little better.

Thanks Again for your help, time and effort.

    Kind Regards

    Ignomony
