Re: Do you think Halifax will upgrade my account?

    Hey guys,

    Just to update this thread.

I decided to leave it till this month before doing anything.

I checked credit expert and the CCJ had dropped off my file so I went to Halifax in person, explained the situation to an advisor who said I could appeal if the application was refused.

However he put the details into the system and I was accepted!

As a side note: my credit limits on both of my credit cards have both doubled this month so I am so glad to see the back of the CCJ.

Thanks for all your info / help / tips guys... it's much appreciated

I had a similar account with Halifax for nearly 6 years, with the same circumstances as you and I tried on several occassions to upgrade my account unsuccessfully. In the end I gave up and went to lloyds TSB and spoke to their advisors directly and advised them of my circumstances. They opened a current account for me straight away with an overdraft.

I think you should try going to the the branches and speak with them directly, they will try their best to help and sway the decisions of the lending departments for you. Good luck

Hi, i seen your post, and i was in a similar situation, 4 defaults, which do not come off my file until 2010. I had a Halifax Eashcash account for 3 years, and was always good with it, didnt give them the chance to put any charges on my account at all.. In March finally decided to take the plunge and to apply for a Reward Account, and they gave it to me, along with an overdraft.

Re: Do you think Halifax will upgrade my account?

    Hi,

    Thank you for your replies.

Basically after this month, I will have one satisfied default that will come off in 2010.

I do have two credit cards on my account and have no problems with either one of those, they both show zero late payments in the past 36 months.

I think your "all you can do is try" is the best advice. I will leave it till August then go into my local bank.

    Fingers crossed!

Re: Do you think Halifax will upgrade my account?

    Hi

Halifax will look at 2 things.1) Your credit rating 2) Your profile within halifax.

How have you been as a halifax customer? Have you had failed direct debits, gone over drawn, over spent or stayed in over draft for a while. Does your account look like a person that lives from pay to pay or do you have money in your account at the end of the month? All this will reflect how halifax profile you......

So I would say no not right now as you have a default still active till the end of the month. You also have 2 defaults (satisfied) but they are still defaults till 2010.

Do you have any other credit accounts that will show you as responsible for credit like a mobile phone contract? This is a must to improve your rating and also ensure you are on the electoral register.

I had a 100% credit rating after clearing it of defaults, but as one was for halifax (that i did clear after a year, credit card debt), even though my credit rating was clear and they got the money back they wont give me an upgraded account. I earn 1500+ a month, had savings of over 10K and never in over draft or missed payment for 6 years and they turned me down. I went to Natwest who gave me a top current account and after 6 months they are offering me a credit card.....

All you can do is try so its up to you and it will only leave 1 mark on your rating + you can appeal if its referred or declined.

    Good luck either way.

Do you think Halifax will upgrade my account?

    Hi everyone.

I'm a longtime reader and finally decided to put my situation for you.

In the past, I was young and stupid when it came to finances.

I applied for a college course years ago, attended then realized they'd mislead me with the contents so I dropped out and didn't pay for it. This resulted in a CCJ being registered against me which I have never paid.

I then fell behind with a Vodafone contract and ended up defaulting. No excuses on that one and I did end up paying them.

So I have been monitoring my Credit Expert credit file and the information is on there, I have the CCJ on there with a date on there of 31/07/2003 (although up until the first week of June, it stated 01/07/2003 - is is normal for the date to change?)

I also have the default registered in 2004 which shows as satisfied.

Getting to the point, I currently have a basic account with Halifax and I would really like to upgrade to the Ultimate Reward account. I have been itching to apply for quite some time but I have always assumed the CCJ would immediately rule me out. My plan was to wait till after 1st July (now for some strange reason 31st July) to apply but now I'm wondering if the default (albeit paid) will result in an automatic 'computer says no' response.

Apart from the blips above, I have a pretty normal credit file with no late payments in the past three years.

So... what do you guys think? Apply or wait till 2010 when the default will be removed as well?
