Huckster is correct when he says "electric is cheaper to install than oil" but I must comment on his follow on - that people are complementing the system by solar panels and/or wind turbines

To run a typical Central Heating system of say 50kW would require solar panels to cover several football pitches and/or Wind turbines - the size of one of those massive ones that are springing up on hillsides all over the place - this is just for one property - so, whilst a nice idea - technology needs to take a considerable step forwards before that makes any real difference ....

There are some good online articles if you do a search. The consensus is that electric is cheaper to install than oil but will cost more to run. However, electric is becoming more popular as people are installing solar panels and/or wind turbines to complement the system.

Edit- It is also worth looking at a new efficient gas boiler that is suitable for use with bottled gas. Then if your village is connected to mains gas in the future, you can swap to using this

Cheapest to fit will be electric storage heaters (by some considerable margin) -

Oil is only really used as a last resort - when no mains gas is available - it is expensive and dirty - but if there is no choice - electric is the only way to go.....

Incidentally - you don't heat the water and circulate it like a gas powered system - that would be too expensive - simple (reliable) storage heaters are used

Hi, ive just baught a 3 bed semi and i currently has no central heating atal.We have no gas near by so we need oil or electric.I was hoping to get a full package like 7xrads, oil tank, boiler ect or the same with electric.Where can i find about purchasing this and which is beta ie.cheaper??? Any advice would be much appreciated
