Why can I NOT use my cards in Euro country petrol stations when they are unmanned.

Just guessing but the argument fits. Pay AT Pump requires pre-authorisation or reservation of a maximum fill amount. Kiosk authorisation requires the posting of a known debit.

Probably a limitation in the capability of the pump card handling.

If you make regular trips that I'd be inclined to get a European fuel card. I use one and got it from http://www.cscgroup.org.uk

    Hi

I used my Credit Card in an unmanned station in NZ without a problem. Check with your Credit Card company, as it may be a security issue with the CCC, rather than the filling stations. The CCC may not authorise transactions in unmanned stations in certain countries. This may be to avoid fraudulent losses i.e. stolen or skimmed cards, for which they don't have an agreement with the foreign company to recover/share any loss.

If this is the case, perhaps if you are a regular traveller to these countries and need this service, it may be worth switching to another CCC. Is there a forum for Long distance lorry drivers who may have encountered this problem and can suggest a solution?

    Petrol on credit card.

Why can I NOT use my cards in Euro country petrol stations when they are unmanned. They take the card if a cashier is on duty. The machines will not accept British cards with pay at pump options. They work in Norway, so why not the EEC - I thought we were members. Chatting to people on the Ferry they does not seem to be a problem with their cards in Britain. Whats the problem? Whats the solution? I don't wish to open a French account -why should I -just want my card to work abroad.
