    Re: Welcome finance help

Yes, they can add what they want to the account. It is then for you to say that there was only one phone call and a charge of £10 for that is not reasonable, particularly when an agreement has already been made. You should keep your communications to letters and ask them to do the same. If they don't write back, they are not going to get the matters resolved. As long as you keep copies and posting receipts, you can show that you did your part in trying to reach a solution.

    Re: Welcome finance help

As typical of welcome finance it was a phone agreement. They do not like to get themselves into writing letters!! They have also sent me a statement with £10 phone call charges ( I think there are 6) but I have only spoken to them once. Can they do this? Thanks for the link that will come in very useful.

    Re: Welcome finance help

The old debts became statute barred after 6 years. You should send a letter similar to the one linked below.

If you have the agreement in writing for the other debt, you could write to say that ther recent correspondence contradicts the agreement and, unless the situation is clarified in writing within 30 days, you will be stopping payments until such clarification is received.

    Re: Welcome finance help

Hi thanks back in June. I have written to them and made an arrangment to pay this by instalments. I made one payment of £35 then received a letter from 1st credit demanding the original £6,800 that they wanted. I am really not wanting to pay them now as they have completely gone against what we'd arranged. Can you please advice.

I now have another problem. 13 Years ago my house was repossessed and I had negative equity. I have been at the same address now for 13 years and haven't heard a word until last week. I have a company call Telegram Ltd chasing me for this debt but they have not written to my ex! Could you please advice me what to do as I feel this is an old debt over 6 years old do I have to pay it back. Also now received a letter from a company chasing an old debt with the abbey national. This is also 13 years old. Not what anyone needs just before christmas! Many Thanks

    Re: Welcome finance help

You should keep communications to written letters, keeping copies and receipts of posting for anything you send. A chat with an advisor at your local Citizens Advice Bureau could be worthwhile. My opinion is that you should write outlining the situation and asking for written confirmation that a single payment of £2000 will be accepted as full and final settlement of the debt. You should wait for a reply to any letter like this before taking further action.

    Welcome finance help

Hi I have a loan with welcome and asked them 2 years ago to defer a couple of payments. They were really happy to do this. I thought great. They then started adding charges on without telling me of £25 for each late payment. Eventually I couldn't afford the loan and they repossessed the car. I had been paying the loan for 40 months of the 48, they took the car a year ago. Last week I had a call to say I still owed £6,700 of a £12,000 loan ( the car was only £5,000) I got them to agree a settlement of £2,00o ( although I don't even think I owe this). This week I got a letter from the Lewis group for an immediate payment of £6,700 to be paid immediately. Be very careful with Welcome. I now do not know which way to turn or what to do. So if anyone can advice me I would be grateful. There is also a lot more to my situation and how they came to give me a loan. All very dodgy.
