    Pls I Need Urgent Advice

I bought a car 2months ago from this random seller and there is nothing suspicious about the car or him. Anyways before handing him the cash, I signed this documents and he said he will send it to DVLA and I will recieve my new Keeper supplement thing/ log book (or whatever its called) and that was it. 2months now still hasnt recieve anything from DVLA, so i rang DVLA and they said they havent received anything either. This got me worried and i did this car registration check on the internet which i paid for and the results was that the car has not been reported stolen or anything like that. So i tried to call the guy i bought the car from to ask what goin on but he wont answer his phone.

So am in need of help on what to do. I will appreciate any advice given.

By the way i have got the car's:
    * 3 MOT Certificate with different dates which looks real. (2 VT20 and 1 VT30 which is a refusal of an MOT certificate which the seller told me about that why it was refused was because of windscreen washer and track rod end ball joint has excessive play.
    * I have got this V5C/3, V5C/2, V5C/4 DVLA certificate thing for the car.
    * I have got the Car's Service Booklet
*And a written Receipt from the seller stating the date i bought the car, His name and address and how much i paid for the car. And thts about every documents i have got from the seller.

    Hi

Was the seller the previous owner or a dealer ? I am always put off buying a car from a private seller. If I did I would ask to see a photo driving licence and cross reference with V5 registration document. If it did not match I would not buy. But lets presume the seller was legit but was rubbish at paperwork. You could pay him a visit if you have address. Take a friend to act as a witness if you do this, just in case.

The DVLA must have an alternative form to complete with the details you have, so that you can register in your name. Link below would appear to have alternative form. Check with DVLA if in any doubt. I suspect if there was any problem, once the DVLA had received the form, this would be flagged up.

Good luck. As you say the vehicle has not been reported stolen, so I hope nothing dodgy was involved. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps the seller was in business as an unofficial dealer (not paying tax) and therefore does not want to make himself known to the DVLA. I suspect if his details kept coming up on the DVLA's system, he might have the tax man on to him. ???

Re: Pls I Need Urgent Advice

Hi, The seller's partner was the previous owner(Well thats what he told me) and he told me that he was selling the car for her as she only bought the car to get use to driving and that they getting a new car. Well you know i thought i'll gamble on it and also when buying/paying for the car i brought a witness along with me who happens to be friend of mine.
I thought so too maybe he hasn't sent the V5 thing off for DVLA not to come unto him.

I went on the website link you gave me and i found this section where i think my situation fits in. And there is a form i can download which is a V62 form.

    It states

If you buy a used vehicle - seller does not have a registration document or certificate
If the seller does not have a V5 registration document or V5C registration certificate, you should register the vehicle in your name by using form V62 'application for a registration certificate'. You can get one by download from the vehicle forms link below or from any Post Office® branch or a DVLA local office. DVLA will then send you a new registration certificate in your name.

I think that is what i need to fill to get the V5 form in my name.. it should be successful, I hope. And if it is I have to thank you because the past few weeks has been a nail bitting weeks for me.

Thanks so much for the help...I really appreciate it

Re: Pls I Need Urgent Advice

    No problem, glad to help.

A word of warning to anyone. Never buy a car from a private seller when they do not own the car. I take it the cars owner was not present when the car was sold to you. How would you know whether they have the owners permission to sell it in the first place. It is a bit different if you buy a car from a registered dealer as generally they have premises and you have some comeback. I am not saying private sales are all bad, but you have to be carefull.

This could lead to tears if the cars previous owner (sellers partner?) is not aware and reports the car as stolen to the Police at a later date.

I really really hope that you do not get caught out like this. Perhaps I watch too many of these TV programs telling tales of woes where things go wrong. They certainly make me risk adverse.

    Good luck.
