issues with Pre authorisation Expedia/Barclays HELP

    Hey all

Not posted on here too often so not sure if I am doings so correctly.

I have a bit of an issue and I am little worried so I hope someone can help.

On saturday I booked a trip to Sweeden via Expedia. I always use them because of the fact they offer nector points for each trip.

I have a couple of cards stored on the site, and decided to split the amount over two cards. The bulk of which (£600 roughly) would be paid on my Barclays Visa Debit card, and the balance of around £70 on a credit card. I proceeded with the transaction, however the card for the second amount of £70 was declined as it had expired. Instead of re entering this card I did the full amount on my Barclay Visa Debit card as I had the cash to cover this. This went through fine and all booked

I then checked my balance on online banking immediately as I always do after internet transactions and the amount had been debited twice.

I rang Expedia who explained, that the amount of £600 (roughly) had been pre authorised, and they could not manually cancel this transaction, but it would naturally drop off after 72 hours. Now all my standing orders and DDs come out on the 1st of each month and I knew that as this amount has been taken i would not have the money to cover these.

I rang Barclays on sat, and after an hour of being on hold was cut of. I called back and they had closed. I spoke with them at 7am sunday morning and they said their is nothing they can do as the merchant has to let the transaction drop of before it will go back in my account. They said this can take 10 days. 10 days????

I transferred form my savings account money to cover this period, however this is with sainsburys bank and takes 3 days so i am penniless until wed at the earliest.

This morning i checked my online banking and realised that my loan to CitiFinancial had bounced. My mum is going to lend the money to me today so I can call them and pay them, but will I get a default or late payment marked against me for the bounced dd on my credit file? This is the only payment that has bounced to them since i took the loan just over a year ago?

I will have all these charges now - Citi Financial will levy a bounce fee. Barclays will charged my for the bounce DD and for going into that reserve thing on their account. I know this was my error when I booked with Expedia, but neither my banck or they seem to be able to assist in getting this sorted quickly. At the moment I have paid £1200 for a £670 trip.

Also, does anyone know how long it will take before I see the money back in my account? How long do pre authorised funds take to come back?

Sorry for rambling hope someone can help...

    thanks
