Write a letter of complaint then refer the matter to the Financial Services Ombudsman.

Generally insurance companies can can insurance policies if they consider there has been a breach of good faith but they are required to return your premiums less the period cover and cannot claim admin fees. Hope that helps.

Proof of no claims for buildings and contents insurance/ Complaints

I have been having a problem with Sureterm direct buildings and contents - I took out insurance with them back in March. They sent through a large amount of paperwork for me to sign and return - which I did. Unknown to me, in the small print they had asked for proof of no claims. They wrote me a letter requesting this. I sent them a copy of my previous policy. A few weeks later I received another letter threatening to cancel my insurance if they did not recieve proof of no claims. When I rang them (a long and difficult task) I was told they had not recieved the copy of my previous insurance policy. So, I emailed this to them. I rang my previous insurer (Budget) who said that they had never heard of a company requesting proof of no claims for buildings and contents insurance. I asked Sureterm to contact me to reassure me that my policy was acceptable and would no longer be cancelled. They did not.

Today, rather shockingly, I recieved a letter "reminding" me that I owe them £100 for the extra admin for having to chase me to get proof of a no claims discount. I feel so annoyed as I feel it has been me chasing them. Perhaps I have been naive and just do not understand the process????

Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I complain ?

    Many Thanks

    Liz
