    Re: Mortgage Help on JSA

    Hi Lanesend

I assume from your post that you are struggling to pay your mortgage since losing your job. I would suggest talking to one of the free debt advice charities (CAB or National Debtline) who will hopefully be able to help you.

In the meantime, mortgage is one of your priority debts so you need to keep paying it if at all possible. You shoud:

    - transfer your mortgage to interest only (if it isn't already)

    - increase your income where possible - try selling whatever you can on ebay or taking in a lodger

    - reduce your outgoings as much as possible - make sure you have cheapest suppliers for Gas / Electricity / insurance, reduce your groceries bill by buying non-brand items and using up whatever you have in the freezer / cupboard, keep a spending diary to reduce outgoings whereever possible etc. If you have any other debts, you should negotiate reduced payments with them

    Good luck!

    Angela

    Mortgage Help on JSA

Hi, Please can you help me? I was made redundant at the end Jan 09. I am on contribution based job seekers allowance. My partner works more than 24hrs a week. I ma being told that we do not qualify for government help with mortgage interest. I am with the west brom bs. We have just had a three month break from payments. What or who should I speak to? I have always been in employment and at the age of 42 am willing to take any job to meet ends meet. Thanks Lanesend
