It would appear from the 4086 being charged at 8.36 over 7 months that you ARE on a seasonally weighted tariff. Will balance out over the year but for the winter period makes the bill over £100 higher. IMHO a sneaky system which in effect lends the supplier money.

Worth eliminating one potential issue. Being billed for a metric meter would make your gas consumption x2.83 higher. As it happens that's roughly how much gas you have used than me, but equally could just be that you have lower insulation and more heat from your central heating.

Re: Completely confused by Gas Bill

vonnie1: Hi - thanks for the reply!I guess the £200 seems so much because of the debit being split and added onto the monthly payment. The only thing I can think is different is my partner was unemployed for 2 months in Jan and Feb this year, which meant he was at home alot more during the day - could this have bumped up the bill by so much? Yes, we have GCH....I originally thought the letting agent had made a mistake but when I checked the landladys final read and our lettings agents first read they matched (the landlady only moved out of the property a couple of days before we moved in) - she has also told me that she only used to pay £80 a month for gas and electric. We didnt recieve a quarterly bill, should we have?To be honest i'm not sure if we are on a seasonal tariff or if we have a discount - it doesnt mention anything on the statement - just 'standard gas meter'.The electric readings were high at first but they had a number wrong on the reading (a man came to read our meter in April and he got the figure wrong) so they adjusted the bill from £900 debit to £700. It nows seems to be ok regarding electric. The readings are below:5449 - 17/106107 - 20/046131 - 11/056131 - 12/05Our tarriff says between october and april we used 658 (100s cubic feet) = 20894kwh Charges - first 4086 at 8.36 and the next 16808 at 2.488pThank you so much for your time on this.

I'm not sure why its coming up with no spaces - see below meter readings as they are hard to read on my previous post

    5449 - 17/10

    6107 - 20/04

    6131 - 11/05

    6131 - 12/05

so why such a big difference in useage?

Please can someone help me as I feel sick at the thought of paying a DD of £220!!

Hard to say based on the information. £200/month does seem a lot but £70/month is probably well low for the winter period.

You say you have done nothing different. I assume you have gas central heating. If so you wouldn't need to do anything different for the room stat to make a big difference depending on outside temperature.

The issue is whether the bill is right or not. How do you know a mistake wasn't made when the letting agent submitted your read? What happenned to the first quarterly bill? Are you on a Npower tariff with seasonal weighting of primary units? Are you on a Npower tariff which doesn't pay any discount until after 12 months? What about the electric readings?

I'd pay less attention to the useage breakdown. It can't be accurate on a monthly basis if the only readings are 6 months apart. Ditto the April to May reading is a very short period, in fact it's only 12th May today, not even mid month.

Concentrate on the total useage and why Npower think the debit is £791. If you tell me the readings and your tariff I might be able to help more.

    Completely confused by Gas Bill

    Hi Everyone

We have been living in our rented 3 bed semi since October 2008. We pay our Gas and Electric by DD (£70 p/m).

We have just recieved a 6 month statement from when we moved in and it says we are in debit by £791!!!

After going through the useage breakdown it states that each month from Oct - April this year we used 109 units of Gas, but in April to May we used only 24? We have done nothing different and certainly not as drastic as the above difference??

This doesnt make sense to me - the letting agent submitted our gas reads on the day we moved in and (stupidly) we didnt check them until April when we submitted an actual reading to NPower. So the agent reading and the april reading are actuals and appear correct, and the april reading and todays reading is actual and correct - so why such a big difference in useage?

Please can someone help me as I feel sick at the thought of paying a DD of £220!!

    Thank you
