Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

It does sound like you are under insured then especially bearing in mind how much was taken.

The average home is thought to have around £40000 of contents.

Its important to Insure for the full new cost of your entire contents.

Its very likely they will deduct money from your claim for you being under insured, has the loss adjuster explained to you what under insurance is?

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Similar situation. I got burgled too recenlty and the claim is more than 10k, they have taken most of the stuff of value. I have most of the receipts and now they said I am underinsured by 50% which I disagreed, the most I am under would be about 20% or less. Don't know how they determine the figure of my total content value by just walking around in my house. They tried to be funny of the way the burglar got in too, the whole door panel was kicked in, they asked was the door open??!!....don't even know what they're getting at. Your home was burgled and door was forced, don't say anything else.

Ok I will just wait now.He said he has to make more enquiries and get back to me.Thats what made me think he would check about previous claims. But I didnt think they took into account claims going so far back anyway.I was never asked on my forms. So why they asking me now.Anyway im not sayng anything and if asked say I dont remember claiming it was so long ago. I also thought I had too many receipts as proof and expensive items. He didnt like it.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

    1) Don't mention the fence unless they specifically ask

    2) Take some photo's for your own record in case you need them if a dispute arises.... Otherwise the Police will only photograph for their own records if they feel the need.

    3) They cannot effectively argue against the opinion of a scene of crimes officer from the Police, if he states on the report in his opinion it was secure...then any investigators, ombudsman or court (highly unlikely) would take the officer's word as the undoubted truth over any other speculation.

You will win this with what you've described here., just stay focused and determined.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

I didnt think I should mention about the fence. Im not even sure about that either and know it cost about few hundred pounds. As for theentry the police asked me the same question I said I locked the door they said are you suer you pulled the 5 lever I said we do it as habit anyway they then said I am satisfied it was secure and will right a report then provide you with a crime number in an hour or so.They did. Are you saying if the police have it down as secure they cant really argue?? Do you think I should contact them and say your guy didnt take pictures of the forced tool on my door and the big foot mark

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Don't offer any information regarding the fence unless you're asked, that should also be irrelevant if it was nine years ago. Concentrate on getting digital photo's of the damage and pushing your valid claim ahead, at least the Police report agrees therefore it is a genuine claim, do not let them fob you off that's why you pay the premiums to cover an event like forced entry such as this. !!!

If he had a big bootmark and a dent on his head, I think the assumption that illegal force was used would be very safe to make. !

    : -- ) LOL

Otherwise they will play on your uncertainty.?

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

I know hes rude and the fact he didnt look there I should take pictures and email to him as I have his email address. Do you think I should say about my claim 9 years ago.But if I mention it now he may say why I didnt mention before.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

But he claims they cant be opened. Was wondering if I should mention about the fence now before they try and use this to void the claim??

I don't think that claims over Five years old are a issue anyway, do not let them wriggle out of it if you are met with resistance or a refusal then post back here.

Well a big dent and bootprint would not have been left if the door was left unlocked....would it. ?

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

The claim for the fence was about £400.00 it was soooo long I cant even remember. I just told him I cant remember who I was with insured with and I dont remember making a claim. The door has a dent in the front from the force and a big foot mark. He didnt look there he was just interested in taking a picture of the 5 lever lock. I said I locked it as habit. But he claims they cant be opened. Was wondering if I should mention about the fence now before they try and use this to void the claim??

Its a upv door. There is a hole and foot mark a small hole. He didnt look at it. He wasnt interested. Just saying I couldnt have locked the door. But you have to for it to shut. He said no way can they get in through these doors. The police said they will put in there report the door was secure. If I hadnt locked up the metal for part of the door wouldnt be broken. A big foot mark and a hole in the bottom of the door from a tool. But like I said he didnt look at that just the frame. he didnt want yo pay. I could tell. The claim was too big and I had too amnay records of items.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

What kind of door, Upvc or wood was fitted... where have they created the marks, also besides the lock being a 5 lever what type of lock was it.? euro cylinder / rim latch etc.

You may have been the victim of, "lock bumping" certain types of lock can be easily opened without leaving visible signs of forced entry, a lot of people have been burgled by this method then simply assumed they must have forgotten to lock the door, when in fact it was securely locked.

Whatever the situation... insist that you locked the door on leaving the house, you at least have some visible marks..photograph them along with using the Police report & crime ref. number and make sure the insurer does not try suggesting that you forgot to lock-up on your way out, as a means of refusing to honour the claim. !

    Read about it below.

Re: I was burgled worried they may not pay out

You should stop saying that you may not have turned the key, you can't remember and so on.

The door was locked, it has a 5 lever lock and it was forced by the burglar. You made a claim 9 years ago for a fence and the claim was about £x.

If the insurer is arguing, you should keep correspondence in writing (except to chase up replies to your letters) and demand that they pay out or give reasons not to. If they give reasons, you should argue in writing (keeping copies) but you should not tell them that you are unsure about the facts otherwise they will decide the facts that suit them.

If you visit a house clearance auction, you should be able to get a TV for a few pounds but you should plug a few in before you bid to be sure that you get one that works. You might also get a box of toys to give the kids something fun to do until things get back to normal.

I was burgled worried they may not pay out

Please help. I am very upset. 2 weeks ago I went out at 6.30 and came home at 12.30pm to find I had been burgled. They had taken every thing of value from my house totaling about 12K. When the insurance guy came round he tried to say my door has a 5 lever and I didnt lock it of turn the key to my knowledge I locked it and you can see where they had forced entry. However I though I put th 5 lever on but may not have. How ever my door still locks. Also he asked if I had claimed before and I said I couldnt remember I think 9 years ago I claimed for a fence on my house insurance with a different company but cant remember as it was so long ago.now i remembered.will they not pay out due to the locks. The police came around and said the door was secure but they are trying to say it wasnt because of the 5 lever lock. I would be glad for you advice as at the moment I do not even have a TV in my house I have 3 children who are very upset and angry and I can see they will try everything not to pay due to the size of the claim. If anyone has had experience like this too I would appreciate hearing from you.

    Thanks
