7 day check is good! They will ask you to do that!

If it turns out that it is running fast they fit a test meter for free

It would be a 5 dial metric now, no new imerial except 6 dial business are now produced. I would advice doing a 7 day test by reading the meter the same time each day, getting your supplier to do a test on the meter may cost £60 + as it has to be sent ofgem test center.

Try calling SE and ask them if you COS (change of supply) read is correct and confirm the MSN with them for your gas.

Also give them all the digits on your meter so they can see if it is 4 or 5 dial meter, all the number, points and numbers in black or red.

They should do a usage checklist with you and if there is a problem with the meter they will fit a type of test meter to check.

If they do all of this and it come back that that is your usage there isnt alot more you can do.

You have to be paitent as it may take a while as SE dont own the gas meters its transco so they have to book app with them.

Stick with and you will get it resolved!

Consequently, this is causing my bills to come in higher than it was previously. What can I do from here?

First of all don't rant about the meter change. The meter is not yours, its probably owned by Transco and managed by your supplier who might have had an issue with the readings being low (probably because the property was being renovated).

It's possible that an imperial meter has been replaced with a metric meter which may appear to move quicker. I don't know.

Ignore the meter changes and concentrate on the bill. A metric meter requires a different billing calculation but you have not mentioned anying that would make that relevant. Only the bill is relevant to your issue and that's the only thing you haven't mentioned.

Southern Electric - New gas meter running too fast!

I was having my supply for gas from BG when I decided to switch over to SE due to it being cheaper. The property was being renovated at the time and the gas was not being used much. At first, due to the property being old, there was an old meter which was working fine. BG then decided to change the meter to a new one due to the life of the old one had expired. Fine i thought. they hanged it and this was working normally as and when the gas was being used when we moved in. Then only after about 3-4 years BG (who own the gas meters) decided to change the meter, AGAIN!

I rang BG and asked why this was only after 3-4 years as surely this is too early. they told me that there was a 'fault' with the meter. I said, there was no such fault as this was working normally. Anyway, they forced upon changing it and said if this was not changed then they would fine me £1000. So I had no choice but for them to change it. What a nightmare after it was changed for the second time in 4 years!

The second meter is now running as though there's no tomorrow. The usage has of gas has not changed, however, when I look at the meter whilst gas is being used, the units are ticking over so quicklu that they never used to on the previous meter. I questioned this to SE and BG who just ignored me and sais, "You are using gas too much". But I am not. Consequently, this is causing my bills to come in higher than it was previously. What can I do from here?
