    Hi,

Thanks for that. It might be a no-brainer to you, but I don't know how this stuff works, which is why I mentioned I've never missed any payment for anything.

    Thanks anyway.

    Just looking for thoughts.

PS, I've always paid my bills, and I've never defaulted on a direct debit in my life.

If you're asking for suggestions as opposed to letting off steam, I suggest you consider paying, however I would not consider "a letter advising an outstanding balance" as proof positive. They should have sent a proper final bill which you can marry up with the initial bill from your new supplier.

So if its only a letter, and you still want to complain, demand a proper final bill. Alternatively pay-up and complain formally about the form of notice. That way the complaint case fee risk is all with Scottish Gas. If you don't pay the default risk is all yours. I think that's a no-brainer.

Time limit on receiving final reading?

    hello!

Just looking for thoughts. I changed energy supplier from Scottish Gas to Scottish Power for dual fuel in November, and today I received a letter advising an outstanding balance. It's not a large amount, however, I refuse to pay as it's taken 6 months for them to send the bill to me. My present provider gave them my final meter reading in November. If I had moved address in those 6 months, I wouldn't have known about this outstanding balance, and therefore wouldn't have known my credit rating would be effected. I have complained on the phone to them and got no-where, so am making a formal complaint, which I intend to to pass to the Energy Ombudsman if they don't write off the debt.

Just wondering if anyone has had experience of final bills coming so long after switching providers?

PS, I've always paid my bills, and I've never defaulted on a direct debit in my life.

    Thanks for reading.
