Any chance you can take this up with your bank as an unaithorised debit? I know it technically wasn't, but if you plead good faith and a misunderstanding fo the small print, you might just get it refunded.

    Worth a shot....

You are most welcome, I believe in proper straight forward tie free marketing, which I think you also do. Schemes like theirs are "a spratt to catch a Mackerel" and are underhand although legal, but should be looked at by the OFT as they are too full of small print and mislead people.

I own an internet retail company and I would never employ such a system to rip off my clients, I think it is a disgrace.
    Thanks for your response.

Answered in your website rip off question.

A lot of these companies rely on people taking a free trial and forgetting to cancel their subscriptions, then making money from unwanted services or goods. I have known the likes of a famous Readers magazine among many others to market in this way. Best way is not to give financial details, unless you are really wanting their offerings, or have a great memory and can remember to cancel within the trial period.

    Negative option selling

    Hi,

Can you tell me anything about this. Just been mugged by a website after taking on a free trial.

They have taken £176 from my bank account for a 1 year membership that I don't want, anything I can do?

    Cheers,

    Jon b.
