Re: hugh hugh hugh electricity bill!

    Hi

I did forget to say we added a bathroom ceiling fan to try & stop mould and damp in our bathroom but that is on a timer and goes off after 5 mins after shower, and we were told these are pence to run anyway.

We also had a new porch put on too.

We use energy saving bulbs. I try not to use our tumble dryer.our tv and computers are now not left in standby.

we only have 2 tvs and the dishwasher is used mostly once a day

I simply can not think why we use so much electric.

I have monitored our electric use for 11 days and so far we have used 191 kw

The 6206 over 6 months seems a bit high consumption for a house with gas central heating but so is your (recent?) 191 units over 11 days (17 units/day). Either you have a secret appliance somewhere or, extremely unlikely, your meter is wrong. Before going further you should see if you can understand and explain the 17 units/day.

    hugh hugh hugh electricity bill!

    Hi can you advise

We have our gas and electric with npower which is the cheapest for our area.

in nov 08 they gave us an amended electric bill as I gave them a reading. It read 42204

In mar 09 we had our first dual bill with them.

I decided to read the meter again as I thought their estimate was rather low.

Imagine my shock when the reading read 48410 thats a hugh leap.6206!!!

I have checked back on old bills for est and actual readings and there has never been such a high leap

npower was estimating 42ish readings in late 08 and thats what the actual readings were.

The only difference we have in this house for this winter is 1. we have installed a dimplex electric fire in the front room which we dont use much as we have gas central heating. It is a 2kw & 1 kw heater with two settings.

However in late 2008 we changed our cooker. Instead of all electric we now have a gas hob.

Would a electric fire make this much difference to our bills. It was used a few days when the weather was snowy

    but not every day

I have monitored our electric use for 11 days and so far we have used 191 kw

    What should I do now

    Thanks

    Karen
