As promised, posting to let you all know how i got on with the golf!

It has been back a few times and finally got sorted. It got to the point where I wrote a detailed letter describing the rattles/vibrations and where they were coming from. Only after that did the thing get sorted. Told the garage that I wasnt interested in getting the car back quickly but fixed! I think i wore them down to be honest as they know I would have been back (again!) if it wasnt fixed. I can now enjoy the car! Haven't said that, there is a wee whistling noise at around 60mph but I not that worried about that.

Anyway, thats me for now.
