That would be £20 per person per 12 hours, i.e. £80 per day or £160 with two children. I think I could find a room in NY for that.

All Travel Insurers would do the same thing, the claim is paid under Travel Delay that typically pays between £20 and £40 per 12 hours of delay, its intention is to pay for incidentals when delayed such as food etc

I am yet to come across one that isn't that. Name names so we can know which ones to avoid.

Stranded in a blizzard and insurance only gives 20.00

I really can't believe this.. My hubby and I are currently on trip to New York and there's been a blizzard warning announced for tonight. They are saying that all the airports/flights will be cancelled and we're due to fly home tomorrow. I phoned my insurance to see about getting a hotel to hole up in and they've just told me that they only give 20.00 every 12 hours of the delay (up to 100) and won't cover a hotel!! They're basically happy to have us camped out in the airport in the middle of a blizzard!! Looks like most of the insurance companies are the same! Does anyone know of a company that offers something better as we usually travel with our kids and I dread to think that we'd be forced to do this with two young kids in tow!

I thought the insurance was there to protect you when things like this happen - how wrong was I?
