Hi Jay1999
Realistically i am going to be honest here, 21-24 units per day isnt alot in this day and age, 9 years ago, it would have been deemed as high, but not today, simply because of the number of appliances you have, despite them getting more efficient people do tend to use them more and more. As you mention you use the tumble 3 times a week, but I would make a guess that the dial on the tumble is turned all the way round for approx 120 minutes, 2 hours, which a tumble is usually using approx 2-3 units an hour. So this would equate to approx 6 units for the two hours, which only leaves you 18 for the remainder of the day, washing, and cooker would amount for some of this, as well as other domestic appliances, such as microwave, kettle, tv, digibox, lights, etc.
I would also agree with the other post concerning £30 for a 4 bedroom detached, until you begin to look into your bills, no one has an idea on their charges, as all direct debits disappear from their bank account. They may also be on a historical capped/fixed rate deal which would be fast approaching its maturity. But I would hazard a guess that they simply dont know.
Regrettably gone are the days of cheap electricity and gas and realistically, now are the days on energy efficiency, as these prices are set to stay, despite the massive price rises last year, bringing us in line with the rest of the EU, you have seen prices only being reduced by low amounts.
Therefore you need to work out how much realistically do you want to pay for your usage, if you want to continue, at the same level of usage. Then you need to identify a supplier willing to give you a good price for that. Again as with everything it boils down to the area you live in. Within your post you mention that Npower is your supplier and that due to supply problems, Npower came out and dug up the area, this would suggest, that you live within the Npower distribution region, say either the old Yorkshire Electricity Board, or Northern Electricity or Midlands Electricity Board. Living in those former PES areas, namely PES 23, 15 and 14 respectively, you are paying more for your electricity than with any of the other 5 major suppliers.
Simply put I am with ScottishPower, on their online energy service, its the only online service by any of the suppliers that allows real time billing, so after you enter your readings it tells you in £,p the amount of your usage, you only have to enter your readings once every 90 days, however, you can, if you wish, enter them on a monthly basis so you know exactly how much you have used. You dont get a paper statement, but you still see them, in PDF, format as if you did do, and you can either print these off or save them to your hardrive. You get extra discounts for managing your account online, and again, if you are in one of the Npower regions, then ScottishPower would guarantee to save you money on your price for Npowers electricity. On their gas they are really competitive aswell.
So firstly i would confirm the area you live in. Secondly then consider either reducing your usage, or changing supplier, I know two have dropped their prices and the others will surely follow, but I would consider moving soon.
Let me know if u need any further assistance, especially on pricing.
