    Breakdown cover cancellation

    Hi there,

I had cover with VW assist, but am changing my car to a peugeot. I called VW assist and they said they were unable to continue to cover me as I no longer had a VW and therefore I was entiteld to a £68.00 credit. They advised that this credit could be trasferred over to cover an RAC policy, which was £92.00, i.e I just needed to pay the balance.

I agreed to this, safe in the knowledge that I had a 14 day cooling off period and then went to check prices on money supermarket. I was staggered to find I could get the same cover as RAC for just £42.00, so decided that I should just go with that instead.

When I rang the RAC to cancel the cover, they advised that unless I went with them, I was not entitled to my money back from VW assist. I cannot see why I should be forced to take an RAC policy, which is dearer than my VW cover and also that of other competitors, is this legal?

You need to contact VW Assist, ask for the £68 credit and see if they mention the same condition or not.

Personally I wouldn't take out this sort of cover with people that I couldn't trust.
