    Thanks Mr Spock!

I know my contract said I was tied in until Nov 09 unless I paid a penalty fee ... I'll wait til tariffs plummet some more and contact them re changing over

    hi ejr297

I appreciate you started it in November 2008 but the tariff end date should be within the package name, for example fixed price September, or October, or December 2009 as they have had 3 which all end this year. At present all off them have penalties of £50 but I was speaking to a customer service advisor within their Online Energy Team and they said at this time, there are not enforcing it if u change tariff with them, but they will if you change supplier....

I wouldn't worry too much. They are quick enough to put it up. Not so quick to bring it down and then it is only going to be a small percentage. It will be interesting to see what the power company profits are like ..... record breaking like BP? If that happens I hope the Government taxes the hell out of them.

    Hi,

I'd check the terms and conditions you were sent when you signed up for this tariff, they should confirm the details of a termination fee. I'm not aware of the exact details however lots of suppliers have cancellation fees for Capped or Fixed tariffs.

It does look as though the prices may drop soon as some suppliers have announced decreases but always check first as the rate you fixed or capped at may remain better value than the amount the prices may drop.

If the cancellation fee definitely stands one idea would be to change tariff via a cashback website as this will offset the cost of cancelling this tariff.

fixed my fuel tariff - can I get out of it?

I fixed my electric and gas tariff with Scottish Power in November last year thinking prices were going to stay high. My contract says I have to pay a penalty to get out of the fixed tariff before November 09, but I have heard they can't impose this ... is that true? What do I need to do to get out of the price fix to save money?
