Re: pointless putting convictions in for quotes on moneysupermarket!

    Hi both,

Firstly, smurfinator - many thanks for emailing me your details. I've sent you a reply and I'm keen to get to the bottom of this for you.

Chris - many thanks for making me aware of your report. I've just downloaded it and will be reading it in detail shortly. At a glance, I can see that this analysis was done before we re-vamped the motor insurance quote process at the end of 2008, but I'll be passing the report on to our insurance team so they can take account of the details and assess any further improvements if required. Many thanks for the feedback - it's very much appreciated.

If you'd like to contact me directly, please feel free to do so at the email address below.

    Hi Chris,

    thanks for the reply.

I hadn't noticed the reply from Graeme, must have missed the notification email, so I have only just got into contact with him.

It is not just money supermarket that has this problem, I have tried a few comparison sites since this incident, as a test, and they have all had problems. Some will let you input numerous offences but won't forward them, so just don't seem to be able to cope with you inputting more than one. The boxes are there but it doens't update....

    Hi All,

This is the first time that I have come across this thread but find it interesting.

I work for UNLOCK, the National Association of Reformed Offenders. We have worked on improving access to insurance for some time, and the problem of internet comparison sites is certainly a major problem.

We undertook some research in 2008 called "UNLOCKing Insurance: Issues & Evidence" and this shows the problems clearly evidenced by the problems that thesmurfinator has suffered from. It's available from our website.

I would be interested to hear the result of the work that Graeme Delap has done to rectify the problem on moneysupmarket's website, but it is certainly no confined to them, it is widespread and certainly a big issue.

The FSA are looking into this area.

    Chris

    Thanks smurfinator,

If you can email me on the address below with your name, email and address, I'll see what I can find out from our system. I'll also make sure someone contacts you as soon as we can trace your quote.

You can enter up to 5 convictions on our site - and these details should be passed on when you click through to a provider. I'm afraid I can only apologise for the frustration this has caused, but I would welcome the opportunity to find out why this has happened and to explain where the error occurred.

    Many thanks,

Re: pointless putting convictions in for quotes on moneysupermarket!

I don't have the original saved quotes as I have deleted all the info in disgust.

However, when I got to the returned quotes screen on your system, the top quote was for kwikfit. When I clicked "go to site" it cames up with an error - I tried three times before going to the next one, AQuote whic, I noticed checking trhough the policy that it had only included one conviction. When I put the other one in, it more than doubled.

By this time I was running our of time as I had already arranged to go and see the car, so I printed out the ref No. of the next one down which was Swinton and went out.

After deciding to buy the car I phoned Swinton which my reference number(71875796) and was told that there was only one conviction listed.

I tried telling the lady what had gone on and tried to suggest that maybe she should get her superiors to contact your site and find out what was going wrong and all she had to say was "it's not my fault". Well, It's not MY fault either but I won't be using your site again or Swintons, and I won't be recommending you as I have been doing for months.

To be honest , yours is not the only price comparison site that cannot seem to deal with more than one conviction.

After returning home I tried another site and they would also only hold the information on ONE conviction, after putting two in it still only quoted for the one.

I think I'll be going back to the tried and tested method of ringing around myself.

    smurfinator,

If you'd like to drop me a line with your details and quote number, I'll look into this with the assistance of our insurance team. I'd like to know who the insurer was and why the data was not passed over. To investigate further I will need your details and quote reference number.

Please email me on the address below.

    Many thanks,

Re: pointless putting convictions in for quotes on moneysupermarket!

If you can't afford to insure the car - you almost certainly can't afford the car! You need to go to a broker and find a specialist insurer who will deal with your convictions. Unfortunately for you convictions mean higher premiums.

pointless putting convictions in for quotes on moneysupermarket!

I put all my details, including my two convictions into moneysupermarket for car insurance quotes. I go a quote, well a few actually, that seemed reasonable, so I went to look at the car and decided to buy it. When I called the broker I was told that my quote would be nearly double the original quote, due to only ONE of my convictions being forwarded to the broker. I tried the next on the list with the same results.

What is the point of entering details if they are not being passed on for a quote?

I'm on a tight budget and have just driven 30 miles to look at a car that I can't afford to insure.

    What a waste of time....
