    Re: Definitly some problem?

Your main problem is that British gas are the most expensive prepayment meter providers across the UK.

Not true, it depends on the area you live in and how much others are charging, and how they are catering for the standing charge (everyone pays a standing charge, it's just more obvious on PP meters). In the area I cover BG Key meters used to charge more per unit than the biggest supplier for the area, at the moment they're 3p per unit cheaper, obviously this could change in the future.

Turns out we had a boiler that was 40 years old and the council are coming to put in a brand new one because it's costing us so much

Your main problem is that British gas are the most expensive prepayment meter providers across the UK. You would be better switching to someone a bit cheaper. Comparing usage to neighbours or friends is not accurate, as you both have very different appliances and things.

Are we talking about a gas meter or electric?

The answer? Prepayment meters cost the earth!!! They are so expensive. Our tenancy agreement says that we have to have a prepayment meter and we top it up at least once a week! Yours does sound a little excessive though - have oyu spoken to BG? Why don't you have a normal meter where you can pay by direct debit? would be much cheaper!

    Definitly some problem?

    Hi,

We've just had british gas prepayment meter installed, and just started using our central heating. It's a small 1 bedroom flat, and currently, we are only using the 1 radiator for approximately 5-6 hours a day. This seems to be costing us a bombshell as we havn't been using hot water as of yet, and we've put the temperature on the boiler and thermostat down to the minimum possible . The 1 room is still cold! However our meter is going down scarily fast, we used £10 in 5 days. We've asked all our friends who have heating on all the time, even with british gas, in bigger houses. Nobody uses this much.

The meter shows the standard tarrifs of british gas we were expecting, and no debt or emergency credit is involved.

There has got to be a problem, any suggestions or help would be great.
