"Heating Insurance" - should I bother

I must have spent £1000's over the years on "Central Heating cover" - and now realise what a waste of money this is......

If I spend an extra £79 on my Swinton home insurance (Home Emergency Protection) - am I not covered for exactly the same - with the added benefit of a guaranteed call out within 24 hours or my money back ?

    Comments welcome ....

    Hello again Twee,

Well I guess it's how you feel personally however the Home emergency cover on House Insurance generally only covers you for a certain amount of time and parts- What if the boiler fails completely? Is it still under warrenty? the outcome may persuade you either way.

Our boiler is over 15 years old and isn't the most energy efficient however we have it annually serviced. We have a good engineer local company and they have stated that the parts are still available if they need replacing and if you maintain the system annually it will go on for a good many years yet.

    Regards

    Paul

    Hi Paul,

Our boiler is virtually new - so shouldn't cause too many problems

The rest of the system is getting on a bit - so far, touch wood - no leaks but ...

You can't just get insurance for the radiators (from what I can see) - so home insurance that covers the lot (£500 max) - should be OK - plus it is a whole lot cheaper than an extra £250 for full cover - My quote (buildings & contents) is only £138,,

    Go for it!

Other posters may post some relevant info so worth popping back in to check this post. I would just review the situation annually .

    Regards,
