    Re: Research pays off!

well why didn't you buy it from the internet car broker!! if people only use them to get prices and don't buy from them they won't be able to stay in business. i used to work for a car broker and it used to be really annoying when you would give a quote to a customer saving them loads of money and they would then go and buy off the person who was more than happy to rip them off.

    Re: Research pays off!

For additional info, it was the BRAND NEW MODEL (T180 Rav4) and I only got the quote from the internet broker. Initially I only told my local dealer (who'd given test drives/etc) to be fair, so they could see why they had lost the sale i.e. competitiveness articles 85-91 EU Treaty of Rome regarding free competition, price fixing & tarriffs. It was to my complete surprise that the local dealer matched this broker price, as only the earlier day they had quoted me £28,350 for this car in metallic, thus to discount by £3480 in a few hours was unexpected!

www.ukcarbroker.com gave me the internet quote and knowing someone who got a Citroen Picasso from these Oct 2002, this car was first registered to them and arrived at their address on car trailer.

Yes,But was it on the old model? looking at the date this was posted a new model was about to introduced-could explain the big price drop, anyway I never had any trouble being offered 5 to 7% discount by Toyota dealers, and unlike internet car dealers,at least you would be the 1st registered owner, most internet purchases are preregistered vehicles.

Maybe a lot of it is down to the individual dealer?

So, is your new car fun?

    Research pays off!

In buying my new Toyota Rav4, I shopped around and got a quote off an internet broker who quoted me £24,870 for the T180 model new style one. Thus in telling my local dealer who I'd been dealing with out of courtesy, I was very suprised that they agreed to match this price when they had been quoting me £28,350 for this brand new car from them earlier in metallic. Yet all the experts say Toyota are rigid on price negotiations!

The T180 Rav4 is a great car! Being 4x4 its sure footed, as can drive through big roadside puddles, with no steering tug and if water awashes windscreen auto wipers kick in! Its quick off the mark too (0-60 around 9 secs) and without exceeding 3,000 revs, that I find very handy when joining a fast moving road - I hate people who pull out of such and dawdle along in a world of their own with a clear road ahead of them and I have to brake, cancelling my cruise control set at the speed limit! (Its in any UK Highway Code that all road users must exhibit common courtesy to other road users!) Its also very car-like to drive, but being seated higher, you can plan ahead better, like we all should do! (Many don't, but it can save your life - I know myself!)

This Rav4 also has keyless entry/ignition, where the pad doesn't even have to be put into the dashboard, it works as long as its in your pocket! No pad present - no go, thus getting out open gates on a gated road, it bleeps a warning! Wipers can be auto, so can headlights, no spare carried, the tyres are run flat to get you to service (the spare is rarely used with alloys or its a space saver with others anyway?) and its VED compares to smaller 4x4's like the Terios, thus its a green 4x4.
