I was added to the insurance policy a couple of months ago as an additional driver. The main driver went on holiday one month later, supposed to be due back one month, but made changes to his return ticket at an extra cost of £80, extending his stay abroad. Not long after he was due back, I had an accident, and the insurance company seem to want to escape liability because of this, saying that I was the main driver when the accident occured. They are asking me to write a letter detailing his absence period, and my car usage. I have explained that I only drove a small proportion of miles when he was here, and this remained pretty much the same in his absence, except in some emergency cases. I also have train tickets to prove for longer distances I do not drive, and that in fact I would be relocating temporarily for 6months without a car. I'm worried that the insurance company are trying to fob off liability due to the fact that the main driver is abroad, and he may not be back until 1-1.5mths times...it is my first time in an accident and worried i will be caught out by trick questions... any advice is appreciated.
