Seems like the BBC are agreeing with you Spoofy :)

Let's hope it generates plenty of publicity and appropriate price drops....unfortunately this still will not welp the poor high street shops.

In Some way i agree with Zeb but in others i have to disagree. The poor milk producers [and trust me they are poor unless they diversify] have had a real beating but that is from supermarkets who have consistently tied the milk producers to lower prices with each new contract renewal but at the same time increased the price on the shelf. of course if there is no clarity there then people would naturally suspect they are acting like the energy companies. on another matter about business. tis true to say that business is there to make money but that is where people normally stop their argument because they are under the impression that business is all about making money and nothing else. there is far far more to business within the community than just making money and perhaps i am old school in this thought but i feel business should have some social conscience. large corporations tend to feel that money is what this is about however when they make bad investments ie the banks who is it they turn too to bail them out? the tax payer or in other words the community one reason that businesses should have social conscience.

    Re: Morrisons price rise!!!

You will please some of the people all of the time

All of the people some of the time

But you cannot please all the people all of the time.

These posts are suspiciously devoid of all the good deals that the supermarkets offer (except for Spoofy's last post) and yet quick to criticise if a price goes up. If you don't like the price then check elsewhere and see if it is cheaper. If it isn't then you have two choices, buy it and suck up the extra cost...or don't.

These supermarkets are a business and need to also make their own profits and if that means they cannot offer the same product at a super low price that you have got used to paying then thats a shame. They are also having to raise their costs in line with inflation and fuels costs just like everyone else. If you are not happy then you can always go back to your high street shop who charges 15% more for every item. The big brands have consistantly cut the producers and their own profits to keep the low prices that you come to love and yet when these margins become so tight that it means they have to increase the price the moans and groans come out.

While criticising the prices you pay please bear a thought for the milk producers that have gone from selling their pint of milk at 28 pence to just 13 pence or the local fruit producers who have to waste their produce because big brands have found it cheaper to fly in the same produce from the other side of the world because they can save 10 pence per punnet or bunch and because of this think of the many high street shops that have simply disappeared and the tens of thousands of jobs with them because you don't want to pay £2.55 for 4 cans of beans or £1.64 for a packet of KP Dry Roasted peanuts.

And lets face it, at the end of the day you will not do your Christmas shopping at your local store because it will cost you so much more money, you would rather go to the big faceless corporations and get your discount no matter if it is only 2% or 20%....or even 5% more.

    Re: Morrisons price rise!!!

its a standard tactic of supermarkets to raise their prices so they can 1) offer it at the original price later and call it a knock down price or 2) preparing for a buy one get one free offer. as soon as the prices start rising I move onto something else and wait for the offers if they are not forthcoming then i stop completely using that product. Tesco offer Branston beans at a 4 pack = £2.55p who the hell would buy 4 cans of beans for £2.55? but Tesco frequently do a Buy 1 Get 2 free offer on this item and i stock up for the year when that comes around

Asda do this too. All the Supermarkets do. In fact, those increases are very small. Sometimes I've noticed increases of 50% or more.

Yes I know what you mean, this week prices have shot up again, take KP Dry roasted nuts, last week £1.24, this week £1.50, over 20% price rise, this can be seen through out the store.

    Re: Morrisons price rise!!!

I find Asda to be ok although I prefer Morrisons and would go there more often if it wasn't for the fact that it's further to go to get there than Asda.

If you think that Morrisons are expensive, you should, just for something to really grumble about, visit a Tesco.

For low prices, you should try the discount shops like Aldi, Netto, Lidl, Home Bargains and so on. Sometimes the quality isn't what you'd like, sometimes it is, and I find that I can't do a "full" shop at them but they are all certainly worth a visit once in a while.

    Morrisons price rise!!!

does anyone shop in Morrisons regulary? We shop there every week so i have got used to the prices of certain items. We went shopping this morning and their prices have suddenly gone through the roof!!! For example, i bought a can of "big soup" last week and it was 87p, i bought the same one today and it was 95p!!! same with the weight watchers soup. 57p last friday and 65p today!! how the hell can they justify that!! They have had an offer on where if you saved 4 recipts over the last 4 weeks for over £40 worth of shopping, you got a free £20 voucher to spend this week. Do you think they have increased their prices soooo much to cover that!! Im so discusted, i realise they are a business but my husbands wages dont go up to cover all this price increase and everywhere else is dropping prices, especially with the VAT dropping so i for one will go to ASDA from now on!!! Grrrrrrrr (sorry just had to get that out of my system!!)
