    Re: Electricity back billing

    andyc8508,

Energy suppliers are not allowed to back-charge more than a year's consumption and so you are entitled to ask for the bill to be reduced to cover the period of Dec 07 - Dec 08. This is further supported as it is clear that the issue/fault lies with the energy supplier as they have not calculated your bill correctly.

In terms of payback period, you can ask for this to be spread over your current payments and come to an agreement with the supplier on the term of the payback. Make sure it's something you are comfortable with.

    Hope this helps.

I think you probably have to pay this. What is it for, a factory? I suggest you make an offer that will see it paid off without interest in two years. The company should accept this I would have thought.

    Electricity back billing

We have just received an invoice going back to 17 July 2007 for nearly £9K from Scottish Power. I had been expecting a bill for about a quarter of this. Apparently, in the past they have not applied the 'Multiplication Factor' of 10 which is the reason the back billing is so much.

Are they allowed to back bill to 17 July 2007?

Were do I stand with regards to the error is their invoicing? (I am not disputing the actual reading)

If I have to pay is there room for negotiation of the amount and the time to pay?
