Hi there,
I've recently just moved flat, at my last flat I was setup with bt for BT broadband, talk talk and bt vision which was fine. I left that flat before I had a new property to stay at(I went back to live with my folks for a month). I told bt of my circumstances, that I was leaving my current address and didn't have a new one but i was happy to pay for the service until i did. They would not accept this and I was told to place an order of my BT package to be moved to my parents address for a time period say of 8 weeks and then cancel this order and move the package to my new address(when i got it). This was the only way they could keep my contract within it's terms and save me the cancellation fee. I'm fine with this bit, it's a bit crazy but if it saves me the fee who cares.
So I moved into my new flat on the 6th of nov, BT setup my phone line within 2 days. I was told that 5-6 working days after the 8th my bt broadband would be turned on and a further 6-8 days i'd have my BT vision turned on.
Well it's been three weeks . I've placed the order for my services to be setup three times now and each time the activation day comes and nothing happens, I recieve no phone calls from bt at all and when I phone I keep being spat around departments until finally someone has to deal with me.
Every time I phone i'm told my broadband order has been cancelled, once because they didn't know what address i stayed at although i've told them a good half a dozen times. The next time they didn't give a reason. The order was just cancelled.
I'm fed up of this, I told the operator at BT that I understand it's not his fault but this attitude of "sorry sir, someone was meant to phone you" and "you will have to wait a further 5-6 days" for my broadband is not good enough. I also explained i could of gone to sky three times now and setup sky and broadband in the same time period it's taken them to mess it up.
I'm willing to give them one more chance to set up my services, and have been told it will be done by tuesday next week. Although I can't see it happening.
What are my options to escape my contract(which runs out in dec 2009) on the basis that they are not providing my with the service I'm paying for. Also if i can get away from this contract, what problems will this create keeping my line rental for another provider to provide the internet to my flat.
I'm a part time web developer and depend on the internet for a good chunk of my income.
Thanks,
Luke
