hi
just wondering if anybody out there has had any experience / got any stories to tell about the motorpoint chain of car supermarkets.
my girlfriend and I visited the glasgow branch a couple of weekends ago and viewed, and she test drove the following cars:
ford fiesta 1.25 style (climate), less than 10000 miles, £5500
vauxhall corsa 1.2, approx 11000 miles, new shape, £6000
we were "served" by an obnoxious little man called david who from the outset put words into our mouth such as "yes, a test drives no problem if your willing to buy a car TODAY", to which we didnt reply. he accompanied us on the test drives, where i made it clear while speaking to my girlfriend that she had to test drive both cars to see which she liked best and was free to think about it if she wanted. when we returned he left us to look around the cars which we did, and decided the fiesta was our prefference. we went back to the showroom where he quickly snatched the keys off us and returned them to the desk, leaving us standing with no further service. when i approached him to get some more information on finance and trade in options he told me "finance is about 8%, you can work it out yourself" and "we won't give any figures on trade in until your ready to buy a car that day, but probably around £100." Having been given no further assistance, we left a bit flustered and kind of unsure what just happened. my girlfriend went back in to ask if he could provide a print out detailing the specification and price of the fiesta to which he responded " no, we cant for legal reasons, errrrr incase prices change, or something" while the other guys told him to stop being "miserable."
after having some time to think about it i can only come to the conclusion that being treated this way was disgusting! if such a thing was to happen in an electrical / clothes / food retailers, the inclination would probably be to put them right and not shop there anymore. ive got to admit i was pretty taken aback by this guys attitude to customer service and it would make me seriously consider whether i would return.
other things that i thought were fairly cheap tricks were:
they will under no circumstances tax the car (according to david)
cars will be valeted prior to customer picking up (however this comes at a cost of almost £90)
rediculous trade in valuation. girlfriends car is an "M" plate Polo 1.3cl with approx 75000miles in good condition. while i appreciate its not worth much the guide on motorpoint davids computer said between £300 and £750 dependant on condition.
warranty.......only offer balance of manufacturers warranty. no scope for negociation.
all this was very briefly discussed with david whilst my girlfriend was test driving the cars, as i said no further interest when he found out we might wish to think about it.
please also be aware we are genuinly looking to buy a car, not timewasters and may have returned the following weekend. ive not made up my mind whether this experience will put us off returning or not, though im pretty sure if im approached by david again i will ask to be served by another member of the team who is more customer focused and has an appreciation for the freedom to consider options and repeat business.
all in all, very disappointing on that occasion. have any of you got any views / experiences? would be interested in hearing both positive and negative to help me make up my mind about this organisation.
cheers
