    Hello Bob

Glad to hear you got a deal with the car dealer, walking out always worked for me. Now maybe you feel sorry for the poor car salesman who has just lost part of his commission, shame....

    Hello

Just an update on my question

I queried Doc fee with the PEUGOET salesman and he informed me that it the charge is out of there hands as it is the finance company that sets the fee ,and showed me the finance companys statement.

I did as you suggested ie saying I would have to leave it ,

After a short silence he consulted with some one ? and offered me £125 worth of extras which I excepted as I was going to buy later .so I was very pleased with the offer .

So thank you very much for the advice.

    Bob

    Hughen,

When buying on finance, car supermarkets and car main dealers alwaysc seem to come up with extra charges as you get to sign the finance agrrement.

I used to buy a new car every 18 months and every time was asked to pay fees for documents. I could understand say a £30 fee but £250 is a rip-off.

In this current economic climate, why don't you go back to the salesman and say"Sorry, I can't pay any more money on top of the interest as this is what I have budgeted for" They will try to offer spreading the payments a little or maybe promise you a deal of the century and drop the fee to £200 but stick to your guns and say "No. I'll have to leave it" and head for the door.

I have got away with this on the last 4 new cars I purchased so there is nothing to lose by trying, just be assertive when talking to the salesman.

Please post again and let us know how you get on.

    Hello

I am in the process of buying a new car £7000.00 I intend to pay £3500.00 Dep and the balance on Finance .

The finance deal seems fair ie 30 payments of £138 but the salesman says there is a Doc fee of about £250

Is this about right ? if so what is it for .

Thank you Bob (I hope this is in the right group)
